Investing with pattern, not impulse.

Newion
Brand, Website
Newion has invested out of Amsterdam for 25 years. Long enough to watch markets turn, watch good companies get built, and learn that the two rarely move at the same speed. As Newion geared up for a new chapter, with a younger generation of partners stepping up, we were brought in to design Newion 2.0 from the ground up.
But how do you capture a quarter-century of accumulated judgment and experience without leaning on the usual venture signals of momentum, hype, and noise?

One of the early concepts clicked immediately: Piet Mondrian’s compositions. We simply couldn’t get past the fact that Newion had a rich history of building out of Amsterdam, and we wanted to nod towards the Dutch artist. Mondrian spent years reducing painting to its load-bearing elements: line, proportion, a few primaries, and the tension between them. Every division of the canvas is a decision, and the composition only resolves when the decisions balance.

That is a near-perfect metaphor for how Newion invests. Experience shows up as pattern recognition across cycles, a refined decision system, and conviction that’s earned rather than rushed. The same discipline runs through the firm’s stance: optimize for durable companies, even when that means a hard conversation a founder won’t enjoy. So we let the grid run the entire system, not as a background texture, but as the logic every expression, artifact, and detail traces back to. It’s the structure that signals judgment.
The writing matched the design’s restraint. Newion would rather be sincere with a founder than sugarcoat reality and stay vague to protect a future option. So the copy is plain and direct; it starts from curiosity, then pressure-tests the coherence between a problem, a product, and a credible path to selling it.
The voice earns trust the same way the grid does: by leaving out everything that isn’t doing work.

Newion received a visual system rooted in judgment and clarity, with modernist composition as the operating principle, not a style choice. It reflects what Newion actually is: structured, grounded in experience, and confident enough to be quiet about it.
Altalogy pulled the thinking out of our heads and gave it form. The brand is a perfect metaphor for how we invest and how we show up for founders.
